Number of questions: 

The total number of questions presented in Re-order paragraphs is two-three (2~3).

Scoring(Skills Tested):

The main purpose of the Re-order paragraphs section is an assessment of the Reading skill of the student.

The scoring is fairly simple. The pair of correct positions you can arrange, the more marks you get. Individual correct positions are not counted, only pairs of adjacent text boxes get 1 score. The minimum score you can get for the test is limited to 0. 

The main purpose of the Fill in the Blanks section is an assessment of your ability to understand the organization and cohesion of an academic text.

Your response will be evaluated on the total number of correct pairs arranged in order.

The primary skills required are:

  • ability to understand the organization and cohesion of an academic text.

The score of Reading is connected to the question type.

Time to answer:  

You are presented with several text boxes up to 150 words in random order then you need to arrange the order of the text phrases in a correct possible order.

There is no time limit on a per question basis. You need to be aware of the overall time limit of the Listening section.

If you can complete the answer in less time, you can transfer the time to another task.

Structure of the task

  • For this item type, you are presented with a set of text. From a passage.
  • For this item type, you are presented with a list of sentences short passages up to 150 words in random order. 
  • You need to reorder the original order of the text by selecting the text and dragging it on the right.
  • To select an option to click on the text using the left button on your mouse. Keeping the left key pressed drag the text to the right side and un-press the button to place it.
  • You have no time limit on individual questions, there is a time limit on the overall Listening Section which is around 32 to 40 mins. It is recommended to use around 3-5 minutes to finish this task.
  • It is suggested to go through the entire text options and understand the theme of the passage to order the appropriate options.
  • The task is scored based on the student’s ability to understand the organization and cohesion of an academic text.
  • You can read the options as many times as you want, there is no time limit in individual question. Whereas you need to consider the time limit for the entire section(Reading Section).
  • It is important to select appropriate positions for each text within the time limit of 3-5 minutes time frame to allocate time for other questions.
  • You have no time limit on individual questions, there is a time limit on the overall Reading Section which is around 20 to 40 mins. It is recommended to use around 3-5 minutes to finish this task.

How to answer PTE Reading Re-Order Paragraphs:

The ability to understand how different parts of a text relate to each other is a critical sign of good English language skills. To convey an essential meaning, a large text is written. 

Your primary aim should be to look for a paragraph with some unique feature that will help you identify the first paragraph in order as the title paragraph tends to have some unique feature mostly. In most cases, it doesn’t depend on other paragraphs to give it a complete meaning.

Just move onwards connecting the dots from the second paragraph to third to the last. Each paragraph connects to its preceding paragraph and moves the passage forward or opens up the details. 

After you complete arranging the paragraph incorrect order don’t submit the answers immediately. Read it again, Review the whole passage and check if each paragraph makes complete sense with the theme of the passage.

First, Scan All The Passages before starting to answer the question. This simple step will put your mind in a better position to form a structure. 

Continue to the next option even if you miss what to put in the next place, keep a random one and keep up with another and you can find something at the end to place there. It’s better to try to catch the next passage than to get stuck on a single space and miss other spaces in the process.

An important role is played by each sentence and paragraphs. These sentences and paragraphs complement each other as well as convey the overall meaning of the text.

It’s vital to understand you are scored for the Reorder question. You’ll get a point for each pair of paragraphs that are organized in the right order. You’re not going to get a score based on each paragraph’s location.

A good grasp on grammar, vocabulary and common Collocations is a recommended skill to sharpen to score higher in this test section.

You can score full marks in this task so carefully select the answer, better performance on this task can help to improve the overall score in PTE Academic.

After you complete ordering the paragraph don’t submit the answers immediately. Review the whole passage and check if each sentence makes complete sense in order. In case of doubt, it is recommended to try different orders in mind and see the result if it makes better sense.

In the end, a quick analysis will easily avoid these errors.

Last but not the least, use the time wisely. It’s better to complete earlier and then review for accuracy than to hold on to the single hurdle and lose other potential correct answers.
