How to answer Reading Multiple Choice Single Answer:

In the reading portion of PTE, the multiple-choice, single answer, is simpler one of the two questions with multiple choices in this segment.

A text on your computer will appear and a question on that text needs to be answered. Multiple choices are presented to you, only one of which is the right choice.

You must know what exactly to look for in the passage. When you read the text, you should be clear about what kind of information you are looking for. Is it a specific detail or is it an understanding of the opinion expressed in the text?

You first have to read the question immediately. The choices should be read next. This together gives you enough knowledge to continue and begin to read the chapter. Do not read the passage without context. You always have to read it for a specific purpose. What details exactly are you looking for?
You can skip the passage to get a general understanding of the subject and organize the details in the document, i.e. which paragraph or section of the text says what.

Once the options in the passage are referred to, you should read this section of the text again. Read the phrases before and after to ensure that you understand the whole context. Often, after a few words, the context changes!

You need to answer the question by selecting the correct option. To select an option, left-click the option. The selected option will be highlighted in yellow. If you happen to change your mind you can deselect the option by left-clicking on it again.

Make sure that you look at all options before submitting your reply. Eliminate the incorrect options, don’t hurry to select your first option.

It may take some time to build reading skills. Make it a practice to read a general text every day.

Sample Question with the answer for Reading Multiple Choice Single Answer

Sample Question 01

In encouraging honest intellectual effort, it is important to establish a firm but positive classroom ethos from the first day of class. To be effective, ethics should have a positive side. Statements about what is not allowed, no matter how urgently expressed, are far more effective when paired with what is expected. While it can be tempting to focus on how you will punish or markdown plagiarism rather than your specific expectations, do not fall into this trap. Once the ethos shifts to strategic game-playing for points, students will see cheating as a rational choice.

Read the text and answer the multiple-choice question by selecting the correct response. Only one response is correct.

Which of the following is not advised as a way to encourage students to not plagiarise?

  1. Explain to them very strictly how plagiarism will be punished and marked.
  2. Combine statements about what is not permissible with statements about what is expected.
  3. Explain specifically what is expected from the students.
  4. Setup a positive classroom ethos right from the beginning of the class.

Correct Answer

Option 1: Explain to them very strictly how plagiarism will be punished and marked.

Sample Question 02

Dennis Tito, an American engineer, and multimillionaire was the first space tourist to fund his own trip into space. In 2001, he spent nearly eight days in orbit as a crew member of ISS EP-1, a visiting mission to the International Space Station, after being accepted by the Russian Federal Space Agency as a candidate for commercial spaceflight. Tito met criticism from NASA before the launch, primarily from Daniel Goldin, at that time the Administrator of NASA, who considered it inappropriate for a tourist to take a ride into space.

In the decade since Dennis Tito journeyed to the International Space Station, eight private citizens have paid the $20 million fee to travel to space, but it is believed that this number could increase fifteen-fold by 2020. A web-based survey suggested that over 70% of those surveyed were interested in travelling to space, 88% wanted to spacewalk, and 21% liked the idea of staying in a space hotel.

Passionate. Creative. Resourceful. Driven to Learn. That’s how Lee Ann Kidwell and Jennifer Hurst describe the children they interact with each day as preschool teachers for Day Early Learning. However, those same words are often used to describe great teachers, and they can certainly be used to describe this mother and daughter who have made a career out of educating Indiana’s youngest learners.

As a military wife, Lee Ann often found herself running her household and serving as the primary caregiver for her three young children while her husband was serving in the Navy. During that time, she decided to run home-based child care so she could teach her children while also providing help to other families.

“I started caring for kids in my home, but once I decided this was a good career for me, I moved on to work in Navy child care centres,” said Lee Ann. “That is where I learned what quality care looks like.” Nearly 95 percent of the Department of Defense’s more than 800 centres are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and are considered among the highest quality centres.
