How to answer Listening Write From Dictation

This is an easy task [ comparatively ]. All you have to do is listen to a recording and type all the things that you hear in exact order without any spelling mistake. You will be allowed to listen to this only once.

This type of question is very important to students or professionals, during daily life. This means listening to and being able to write a simple paragraph. What you have to do is do several times during a lecture or a meeting. You can make a good mark on this question type if you are comfortable with this basic skill.

If all the words that you typed are right, you will get full marks. If there are mistakes partial scoring will be done.

Before the audio starts, you’ll have 5-10 seconds. Take this time to focus on the audio and be ready to take note. You can directly type in the text box on the screen or make quick writing on the notebook. Remember in this task you have to write the whole sentence in exact order with correct spelling. When the audio starts to play you can either attempt to type it in the response space directly, or you can first understand it and then type it after the audio has finished playing.

Some of these sentences may be a little longer too. In this case, typing directly is particularly difficult.

Different approach to answer the questions are:

  • One approach is just to hear and try to understand and recall the sentence and then repeat it at the end.
  • The other method is to write it in your rough scratchpad and to use it in the end to write the answer.
  • If you type indirectly, you can simply enter the first few letters or just the first letter of each word, instead of typing the entire words. You can do the same if you write in your rough scratchpad.

Whichever method you follow, stick to one if you try to execute multiple steps you may miss words and make a mess eventually losing the score.

First, listen to the lecture and make a quick note of the key points from the audio. Put in your 100% concentration on the audio, the audio is played only once, no-repeat play is available.

Review the note and connect the sentence remembering the audio.

It is recommended to memorize the whole passage if possible or make notes of key points from the sentence and tally the notes to draft the exact sentence.

Try to understand what the sentence is all about. It will finally make it easier to look at what you wrote and expand it into full words. It depends on how confident you are of your speed to type, whether you type directly or write first on paper. We recommend that you use all methods to experiment and see which results are better.

After you type the correct option don’t submit the answers immediately. Review the phrase against the note and verify that your answer is the best possible match.

Last but not the least, use the time wisely. It’s better to complete earlier and then review for accuracy than to hold on to the single hurdle and lose other potential correct answers.
