How to answer Multiple Choice, Single Answer:

Before the audio is played, you will have a few seconds(5-7 secs mostly). Use this time to look at the Question and options available instantly. This simple step will put your mind in a better position to listen to the audio and understand the context of the passage, which will help in selecting the correct option later.

The question and responses can not be read in their entirety in this time frame. So, what are you going to do?

Pick a few words from each choice, read the question. Together, this allows you to understand the meaning of the recording. You will know what you are listening to explicitly for when you learn a few words from each choice.

The recording will play automatically. You can only listen to the audio once. You will find multiple options but only one of them is correct.

When the audio begins, try to understand the theme and what the audio has to do with the problem and the choices. If you hear any important information, such as a noun, specific date & time location, specific detail, etc. you are listening to recognize or verify that information.

Keep an eye on the choices while listening. The goal is to define those choices. Validate them when you receive more audio content. If you hear a word relating to a choice, try to assess whether it’s correct or incorrect. Recall! Once the audio is over, review the question and the choices again. This is not the final list. Then check your notes, what you recall and the choices you have picked. Ensure that the final decision is based on these points

You need to answer the question by selecting the correct option. To select an option, left-click the option. The selected option will be highlighted in yellow. If you happen to change your mind you can deselect the option by left-clicking on it again.

Follow These Tips To Effectively Multiple Choice, Single Answer In Pte Academic

First, Scan The question and options available before the audio starts.

Continue with the audio note the nouns, date, time as well as key points you hear in the audio, these play vital roles while selecting the correct options.

Special note:

  1. Find what to listen for :
    1. Main idea
    2. Supporting ideas or details
    3. Inference
    4. The speaker’s purpose
  2. Skim through the questions and search for the right options even before you have started listening to the audio itself.

There are several ways to approach the answering: directly select the option while the audio proceeds(highly not recommended), Taking note in a notebook or carefully listening to the audio and answering later (not recommended). First and Last option is least recommended, the second being the most recommended one.

Taking notes in a notebook: If you are faster and more comfortable with writing with hand taking notes in a notepad is recommended. Don’t try to write the whole transcript it would make the process slow and you may miss the important words. You can write the nouns, date, time as well as key points you hear in the audio-only and later use it to make the best selection.

After you complete selecting the possible option, review the selection and check if each option makes complete sense as heard in the audio recording or not. In the end, a quick analysis will easily avoid these errors.

You will be judged based on if your selection is correct or not. If your option is correct, you will gain a point, if it’s not correct or is unanswered no negative marking is done.
